"It’s about giving people the opportunity to participate."
This year's Medway Sports Awards was the first to be held since 2018, and Anchorians Football Club were delighted to walk away with three trophies for the cabinet!
The awards were hosted by Danusia Francis-Reid with special guests Chris Waddle and Georgia Mae-Fenton.
First up was the Gold Award for Club of the Year, sponsored by Active Kent and Medway; an accolade Anchorians won at the last Sports Awards in 2018 and were over the moon to be awarded again this year!
Speaking to Kent Online, Chairman Leigh Willis said: “It’s about giving people the opportunity to participate.
“We’ve got children as young as three to seven coming to us, they can grow and come out of their shell, develop and enjoy themselves.
“We’re fortunate that we’re in the centre of our community. We’ve got 86 teams and 1,200 players and that will continue to grow.”
Anchorians Football Club also took the Silver Award for Junior Club of the year, sponsored by Child Friendly Medway, with Coach and Committee Volunteer, Andy Brown, scooping Silver for the coveted Unsung Hero category, celebrating his voluntary roles as well as his work with Medway Sport, Medway Council and Medway Night Shelter, alongside St John's Church, in supporting the Genesis Football Project; aimed at bringing together vulnerably housed people for activities, space and time to talk.
These awards are a credit to our fantastic coaches and volunteers as well as the players, parents and guardians who help us create such vibrant and inclusive spaces, meaning that football is accessible to everybody. Thank you!
